During one of the classes, the Professor Ignacio asked
the group, after inviting us to see the Faculty of Education, what we could say
about our faculty and what differences we have from the rest. That morning,
there were several cultural activities in the faculty, and the class, included
the three of us, we mistakenly thought that the big difference was that our
studies were more practical, with numerous team works, etc. We have now
determined that this is not more than a tiny part of what makes us different
with respect to medicine or law, for example.
We believe that the most fundamental aspect, which
differences us from the rest of the faculties, is “THE HUMAN FACTOR”.
A surgeon must be right-handed with the scalpel and
the architect with the plans and design. The computer expert must be with
software. The vast majority of faculties work with materials, scientific, inert
and artistic objects, etc.
We have as “working material”, like the students of
psychology, with whom we share building, the people and, in our case, the
children.
This study prepares us, with luck, to be able to
educate hundreds of children throughout our lives, so the Human Factor is
perhaps the most crucial aspect in our faculty.
The team work, the cooperative and collaborative work,
dealing with the family theme, the educational models, the psychology of
children, the activities and projects, in which the faculty works with, the
volunteers etc. They are all means to achieve a goal. The aim is not only to
have a teaching degree. This is not the most important thing and it doesn’t
make better in teaching and more able to exercise it.
But the objective, by the approach of education that
teachers give to each subject and the methodologies employed, is to continue to
build ourselves as people. That the projects and works are collaborative and
cooperative is only one more tool.
Once we get this, we will face a class with 25 boys
and girls, in order to say: we know how to educate, not only in math or music,
which is also important, but also in values. We know how to build healthy
people for our future society, guiding them since childhood, so that they
modify, improve and evolve our society in the future.
If we are not previously able to finish building us as
a people, to use all the means and resources that our faculty has or to
complete our EDUCATION with capital letters, with which moral authority are we
going to teach children in a school?
Teaching is not a career to compete, as law or
medicine, but to share. Through teaching we continue and improve the education
received in the family and the school environment. We have to stand out from
other faculties in our personal values, in the Human Factor, because it is
that, to transmit those same values to the students, using as an excuse the
language, mathematics, music etc.
